THE GUIDE TO SUCCESS IN CCC

Forward:
Having trouble understanding what CCC is? Unsure of how to get a good grade in the class? Well, you have just struck the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow…Leadership is now presenting its first ever GUIDE TO SUCCESS IN CCC. The intention is to bring you, the learner, CCC success at the palm of your hands. Enjoy!

What is CCC?
CCC stands for Contemporary Community Citizenship. Put simply, CCC is designed to encourage learners to participate and give back to the community, both within and outside of the school walls. CCC also encourages learners to take on leadership roles in the community. This special class strives to build community and create positive change, so take advantage of it!

What does CCC look like?
CCC is separated into two groups: Big Group and Small Group.

Big Group is a meeting in the center of The Center at the start of the CCC class period. In this meeting, the community listens to announcements, watches DVS movies, etc. The purpose of the CCC Big Group is to relay basic information uniformly to the entire community.

Small Group meetings consist of approximately 25-35 learners divided into six groups. In this meeting learners have discussions, vote etc. The purpose of the CCC Small Group is to give each learner a voice, establish a venue for change, and build a close-knit community.

Additionally, both CCC Big Group and CCC Small Groups seek to build unity among the ACLC community.

Who runs CCC?
Leadership organizes CCC. A leadership representative conducts Big Group and elected learners lead Small Groups. CCC Small Group leaders term lasts for one year per election; elections take place at the end of the school year.

How exactly do I create positive change?
Creating positive change is an important concept in CCC. This means that change can be good, but can only be encouraged by ones creative ideas. A beautiful mural and a new policy are examples of positive change. But how does a good idea travel from one’s mind to the outcome? One process that can help is the Proposal Process, which begins by the writing of a proposal. When complete, the proposal goes to Leadership, which is designed to help learners achieve positive change. So don’t be shy write a proposal, no idea is a bad idea.

Summary of the CCC Grading Rubric
25% Attendance and Positive Participation
15% JC hours
25% Learner-Led Conferences
15% Community Service
20% Special Project

25% Attendance and Positive Participation
This category of your CCC Grade lies solely on the discretion of your CCC Small Group Leaders. CCC Leaders will grade you based on Attendance (just showing up) and what you contribute to the group as an individual. The following questions should help you reflect on your Positive Participation:

• Do you contribute thoughtful ideas during group discussions?
• Do you show respect for your CCC Leaders and fellow learners?
• Do you participate in group/team activities?

If you can answer yes to the questions above, you are on the right track! The purpose of this requirement is to establish a positive support group for CCC Leaders as well as for CCC members to contribute to positive change.

15% JC hours
All learners are expected to serve on the Judicial Committee for a minimum of one time by the end of the first semester and three times by the end of the secondsemester. The purpose of this requirement is to make the Judicial Committee more diverseand fair to all learners. (For scheduled JC times please see your elected JC Clerks.)

25% Learner-Led Conferences
Learner-Led Conferences occur at the end of each semester (in addition to the end of the first quarter for new learners) and give learners a chance to present to family members and fellow students how they have grown as a person within the last semester. Participation in LLC’s is vital, as can be seen by the CCC grade percentage value.

15% Community Service (ten hours per semester)
This aspect of the CCC grade involves implementing leadership skills to better the greater community. Here learners look beyond the walls of The Center and do service in the community where they can create positive change. Community Service activities range from anything like cleaning up the beach to tutoring. Community Service

20% Special Project
The CCC Special Project, like community service, is another important opportunity for learners to make active change. Special Projects are all things that directly contribute to creating positive change in the community. There are two types of Special Projects: the first is independent (Individual Special Project) and the other is team based (Neoteric Bevies). To complete this section of the CCC grade, learners must either complete an Individual Special Project or participate in a Neoteric Bevy.

The Individual Special Project:
An Individual Special Project can be any substantial project that gives back to the community in some way. This may include beatification (such as making a mural or helping clean the lobby once a week after lunch), facilitator aid or anything else that strikes the imagination. Leadership is a great venue for obtaining Individual Special Project ideas.

The Neoteric Bevy:
Neoteric Bevies are the second way to complete the CCC Special Project requirement. Bevies are teams, which specialize in specific Center needs such as beautification, recycling, dances, events, any many others. Learners may join an existing Bevy and contribute as best they can or start their own Bevies. Either leading a successful Bevies or being successful in someone else’s Bevies satisfies the CCC requirement. Read below for information about Neoteric Bevies start ups and management.
